Product of the Week #4: AI Agents

What are AI agents?

This year, all eyes are on AI agents. It’s already the buzzword of 2025 if you’re asking us. While the idea of autonomous AI systems isn’t entirely new, the advancements in their capabilities are setting the stage for a groundbreaking year.

We recently studied the Agents whitepaper that was released in September last year by three prominent researchers at Google (Julia Wiesinger, Patrick Marlow &Vladimir Vuskovic). This detailed exploration shed light on how AI agents can transcend the capabilities of standard generative AI models by incorporating reasoning, logic, and real-time interaction with the world around them. Their insights offer a glimpse into the transformative potential of these systems in reshaping industries.

But what exactly are AI agents? At their core, they are autonomous programs designed to achieve specific goals by observing the world and acting on it using tools and data. Unlike traditional models, agents can plan, reason, and execute tasks independently, adapting dynamically to new challenges. This makes them particularly suited to domains requiring complex decision-making and interaction, such as coding support and customer support – two areas expected to see initial large-scale adoption in 2025.

The potential of AI agents

AI agents represent a natural evolution in AI technology, combining generative models with real-time tool usage and decision-making frameworks. According to the Agents whitepaper, these systems operate through three foundational components:

The model: This acts as the decision-making hub, guiding the agent’s actions.

Tools: These extend the agent’s capabilities beyond its training data, enabling interaction with APIs, databases, and other systems.

The orchestration layer: This governs how agents process information, reason about tasks, and plan their next actions.

This integration allows agents to perform sophisticated tasks like retrieving customer data in real time, drafting tailored responses, and even executing financial transactions autonomously. By leveraging frameworks such as ReAct (Reasoning and Acting), Chain-of-Thought, and Tree-of-Thoughts, agents can navigate complex workflows and refine their output iteratively.

Looking ahead, AI agents are set to revolutionize numerous sectors. If you ask us, as well as some experts, we will see the first signs of usage in coding support and customer support in 2025. Followed by health-tech, logistics and operations. A lot of companies will be in pilot mode to experiment with AI agents this year.

Our own exploration of AI agents, the Alberic AI

We’ve been piloting an AI agent since last year. Our internal pilot program integrates an AI agent for various tasks (not just automations) within the sales and marketing department. More on that later.

As the pace of technological innovation accelerates, AI agents stand out as a pivotal development in the AI landscape. They promise to bridge the gap between static AI models and dynamic, context-aware systems capable of driving tangible results.
