Cooking up new LED lights for Novy

LED lights product manufacturing

Novy, a leader in kitchen appliances such as ovens, cooktops, and range hoods, approached Alberic to design custom LED lighting for their Pureline range of cooker hoods. These LEDs needed to be flush, heat-resistant, and easy to install. Alberic was tasked with developing and producing the lighting system, ensuring it met Novy’s rigorous standards for performance and durability.

We evaluated Novy’s needs for compact, efficient lighting that could withstand the high temperatures of a cooker hood environment. Novy required an LED system that seamlessly integrated into their design while offering the right light diffusion. We collaborated with LEDiL to develop the lens system and designed the bayonet ring mounting concept in-house to ensure easy installation and secure attachment.

The CREATE phase focused on developing the cooling system and PCB. After multiple iterations, we engineered a custom heat dissipation system that allowed for optimal performance, using thermal tape for improved heat transfer. Additionally, we ensured that the LEDs were not hermetically sealed, as this could reduce their lifespan. The PCBs were fastened using mini screws, and the lenses were bonded with UV glue for stability.

During the APPROVE phase, the product was rigorously tested and certified at our Blue Guide Lab. Once approved, we transitioned to the BUILD phase, where we oversaw full-scale production. Initially, the cooling fins were machined in-house, but due to high demand (100,000 units annually), we shifted to injection molding. The PCBs were sourced from M@M, with assembly carried out by our own WAAK Albericans.

The product’s success prompted Novy to eventually bring production in-house. Even after nine years, the LEDs continue to be produced with the same design, marking it as a long-term success.
